Apparently, 5% of Americans think so about the mayor of New York City and founder of a major financial news organization, according to a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll out today.
We note that 55% of respondents answered correctly that Bloomberg is "a big-city mayor," in the survey that the venerable CBS news show and the magazine conduct each month to give a "wide-angle" view of topics in culture, lifestyle, politics and other subjects.
Bloomberg, an independent who has also tried out the Democratic and Republican parties, has been in the news a lot lately for his response to the city's snowstorms and for helping launch a centrist, "No Labels" political movement.
Oh, and there's that thing about whether he's interested in occupying the White House someday. Bloomberg has steadfastly maintained a "no way, no how" posture about running for president in 2012.
The survey is in the March issue of Vanity Fair, which goes on sale Thursday in New York and Los Angeles. By the way, no one thinks that Bloomberg is "a high-powered fashion designer" a la Ralph Lauren.
But in promoting the Big Apple's major Fashion Week shows last year, hizzoner did joke that he is "a fashion designer's worst nightmare" with his mix of pricey labels and bargain-basement finds.
The telephone survey of 1,058 adults was conducted by the CBS News polling unit Dec. 17-20. It has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.
