You don't want to make the mistake of choosing the wrong type of policy, such as a long term one, because it could mean spending more than you have to. With a short term health insurance you will have to choose a length of coverage. For example, most companies allow you to select a policy that lasts anywhere from one month to one year.

Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act which allows you to keep your previous health insurance plans that you had with your employer for a period of 18 months is a much more expensive option as compared to the variety of affordable temporary health insurance options available to you. Short term plans do not cover routine preventive care such as physical check-ups etc. but cover all other necessary medical expenditures such as surgery, diagnostics etc.

Before you buy a short term health insurance be sure you compare policies from many companies to see what you can afford. You don't want to spend too much on a short term health insurance policy because they are something you will only keep for the time being.
